The Forge
Core R&D Focus Areas
The domains where we actively prototype and build systems
Digital Forge
Engineering local-first applications, private AI homelab servers, and open-source database setups using Go, Rust, and SQLite. We build software that runs offline, respects data privacy, and operates independently of central cloud providers.
Physical Forge
Fabricating modular solar harvesting micro-controllers, custom lithium/sodium battery management setups, and lightweight structural frames. Prototyping physical tools designed for local resilience and long-term durability.
Biophilic Forge
Developing automated watering systems, smart greywater recycling rigs, and biophilic architectural models. Merging natural structures with local sensor automation to support soil health and community independence.
Grounded Development Horizons
Feasible, incremental phases mapping our engineering journey
Horizon 1: Digital Sovereignty
Developing homelab server frameworks and private LLM integrations that operate completely locally. Providing individuals with tools to host their own records and run secure local AI without mining their own private details.
Horizon 2: Local Utilities
Engineering solar-harvesting battery controllers and automated agricultural node setups. Transitioning from digital independence to physical self-reliance, securing local food, water, and power monitoring utilities.
Horizon 3: Biophilic Integration
Prototyping biophilic architectural components and structural materials. Designing buildings that act as active carbon sinks and integrate living systems directly into concrete brutalist and local structures.
